Jorge's TBI Story

Photograph of Jorge

Hi, my name is Jorge and I became associated with the Betty Clooney Traumatic Brain Injury Center following some prodding from my younger (but acts older) sister Angie. Around March of 2012 I decided that I was going to take a serious matter into my own hands. I had been experiencing more and more bouts of inattention, poor planning and organizational skills, memory loss, and poor self-monitoring. I became irritated quite easily and was suffering depression. I was also having serious headaches. I could not immediately relate or recall a direct cause of these symptoms and had a difficult time explaining their origin to my personal physician. I was told by my doctor, “It’s only stress. You need a vacation and your job is stressful.”

I will cover the periods of my life that covers 1982-83, 2012-2013. In relating these accounts I am by no means attempting to trivialize or minimize what happened.

A Lesson Learned

Stuffed Teddy Bears

“Kids need toys when they are sick and in the hospital” A reality that Wendy, a stroke survivor, learned at the young age of 10 when she experienced her first stroke. Now that she is older and able to give back to her community, one of her favorite things to do is buy stuffed animals while she’s out shopping and donate them to the kids in the hospital. Click to read more of Wendy’s story.

In honor of Wendy’s birthday this month, we are asking for donations of new/unused stuffed animals that Wendy will deliver to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Long Beach, CA. They can be mailed to Betty Clooney Center at 4429 E. Village Rd. #236, Long Beach, CA 90808.
