Something of Interest

Bryant Gumbel HBO has a series on athletes and brain injuries. Its called Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel http://www.hbo.com/#/real-sports-with-bryant-gumbel

HBO says, More than five years into the concussion crisis that plagues the American football landscape, everyone agrees on one thing: Fewer hits to the head is better for the health of the players. HBOs REAL SPORTS correspondent Bernard Goldberg uncovers troubling new research showing how the amount of brain trauma suffered in college is rewiring the brains of some of these student-athletes, making it difficult to fulfill their primary role as a student.

Did You Know!

Women Falling

The CDC http://www.cdc.gov/traumaticbraininjury/ says that the leading cause of TBI in older people is Falls --- 35% of all TBI are caused by falls. Most of these falls are in the home and these people could be your parents, grandparents and friends. The aging of the baby boomers makes expectations of an increase for this group grow.

The 4 leading causes of TBI among all age groups are:

  • Falls (35.2%)
  • Motor vehicle --- traffic (17.3%)
  • Struck by/against events (16.5%)
  • Assaults (10%)

  • IMAGINE what life would be like if we couldnt answer the call of a survivor of TBI or their family member when they need help and support and are in crisis!
  • IMAGINE we werent here to give information and resources to survivors of TBI!
  • IMAGINE how hard it would be for a survivor of TBI to try to find a job without the support of our specialized team of staff to help.
  • IMAGINE how much survivors of TBI need your generosity during their most vulnerable period of life!

So, please include the Betty Clooney Center in your giving this season. Every contribution counts.
